Farming 101

My boyfriend Nyl and I have decided to invest on farming this year. Hey! we're not planning or preparing ourselves for marriage, which most of our relatives and friends think but because we feel the need to put our money where we could earn.
Anyway, so we rented my aunt's farm for Php 15,000 which is good for 2 years and deal Uncle Siano, our close family friend, to assist us especially that both of us has no knowledge with this kind of stuff, and also to look out for our crops while we are on the city; in return he gets 5% of our net income.  After closing a deal with Uncle Siano, we asked him about the things we needed to buy and the cost for the labor( from land preparation to planting the corn seed).  He suggested we should used Round-up Ready corn seed so we won't have a hard time dealing with the weeds since all we have to do is to spray a herbicide. The next day I started calling our local stores and look for the one who has the best price.  I never thought that we need Php 17, 280 just for the materials alone and another Php 6,900.00 for the labor (just for land preparation and planting alone) , gosh! to tell you honestly our money wasn't enough.  I told Nyl about it and he decided to withdraw his saving from OIC, a cooperative bank, but we are still short.  So, I decided to avail a salary loan from SSS and ask my mom for help. hehehe!  I thought we could stand up on our own but in the end of the day I always run to my parents for financial assistance. hehehe! Lucky for me, she was able to lend us the amount we needed.
This morning, she and my dad helped me in purchasing the materials and brought it to the farm, how lucky am I? On Monday, Uncle Siano will start planting the corn seed. I wish I could participate on that day and get my hands dirty, but I can't I still have work to do.  For now all I can do is to work and save so we can have the money we needed for the upcoming harvest, which is three months from now.
So for those who wants to invest on farming, like us, or any kind of business just remember to save first for your capital before engaging yourself to it.

My Way to be Protected

I just had my second shot of Gardasil last May 1st.  It is a vaccine created to prevent a certain strain of HPV or Human Papilloma Virus which may cause cervical cancer, well just to inform you guys, there are about 100 strands of HPV.  I got the idea of getting these shots after watching a local TV ads regarding HPV. At that time I asked myself, Do I need this shot?  Honestly, I'm not comfortable going to gynecologists and undergo some test, I think most of the girls do.  But at some point I realized it is for the best.  It is better to protect yourself rather than be sorry in the end.

So I went to the doctor and had my shots, compare to the injections I previously have, this is quite different – it burns.  Don’t take it literally, just that you have this feeling of discomfort on the arm where it was injected.  But don’t worry, it will be fine afterwards.  You just have to stay at the clinic for about 45 minutes after the shot for some observation if your body have some reaction with the vaccine.

Well,  this coming August would be my third and last shots, after that I’m totally protected. hehehe! Before I forgot,  each shots cost Php3, 500.00 and is given within six months.  Yes! It’s kinda expensive.   So you better save if you want to be vaccinated.  And if you have second thoughts or have read other articles about the side effect of Gardasil (like I did), talk to your doctor about it -he or she could give you answers to your questions.

Travel

One of my greatest desire is to travel the entire Philippines and even the whole world.  I always wanted to explore new places, meet new people and study new culture.  I think most of us has the same longing as my own  but not all of us has the privilege to follow what our hearts desire.  Some of us has to earn and save first before we could go where we wanted to go.  We're just lucky today that all information that we need to know about those places are just a click away. Thanks to Google: D

Anyway, I have listed few of the places here in my country that I wanted see for  myself-who knows maybe someday I have that chance.

  1. Camiguin -   The first one on my list that I have been planning to explore since I was in the 6th grade.  It is a pearl-shaped island bounded by Bohol Sea on the north, Macajalar Bay on the west, Gingoog Bay on the southeast and Butuan Bay on the east.  Known for its hot and cold spring, falls and white island.  You could also see here a unique diving site wherein the tombstones are covered with corals, known as the sunken cemetery.
  1. Vigan- located on the western coast of Luzon, this place is one of the World Heritage Site.  Known for its cobblestone streets and unique architecture which you will surely  make you feel the old Spanish atmosphere.
  1. Bohol-  an island located in the Central Visayas Region.  Most popular attraction in this island are the numerous perfectly symmetrical, haycock -shaped hills that rise some 30 meters above the ground.  You could also see there the smallest primate in the world - the Tarsier.
  1. Batanes- the northernmost part of the Philippines that has the smallest population and land area.  You could see houses build with lime and stone and with a roof thatched with cogon grass.
  1. Puerto Princesa- located in the southwest of manila, the  place is the home of one of the new Seven Wonders of the World - the Underground River.    The place is rich with rain forest and white sand beaches.
